ROHM: configuration of a sensor environment in only five minutes

With the SensorShield-EVK-003, ROHM is offering a new sensor shield expansion board equipped with eight sensor boards designed for use with existing open platform MCU boards such as Arduino and mbed.

The SensorShield-EVK-003 is the latest sensor evaluation kit offered by ROHM. The updated kit bundles eight sensor boards with various sensors produced by the ROHM Group, such as for example accelerometer, barometric pressure, geomagnetic, optical heart rate sensors, etc. along with a "shield board" for connecting to open platforms. Using the SensorShield-EVK-003 makes it easy to configure a sensor environment by simply incorporating software and connecting to Arduino Uno or to other popular MCU boards. This not only permits immediate verification of sensor operation, but also facilitates the design of sensor devices. The kit reduces the development load significantly, whilst promoting the expansion of the IoT market. The SensorShield-EVK-003, the sensor shield and sensor evaluation boards are available for purchase separately through the online distributors.

Significant development effort along with hardware and software expertise is required when creating products for the expanding IoT ecosystem. Easy evaluation is complicated due to the fact that development and mounting environments are inherently different for each IoT device.

In response, ROHM has begun offering open source platform tools such as the Lazurite series that facilitate IoT prototyping and initial set development. Moving forward ROHM will continue to develop sensor devices that achieve greater comfort and safety in the IoT and other expanding markets.
