TQ: embedded module featuring i.MX8M technology and LPDDR4 memory up to 4 GB

TQ presents its new embedded module TQMa8Mx based on the i.MX8M CPU series at embedded world. The particularly small module is based on the Dual and Quad Cortex A53-Core and provides all signal pins.

The i.MX8M CPU family from NXP stands out from the other i.MX8 CPU families in that the video and audio functions emphasized. Since these CPU functions cannot be covered in their entirety by a standard form factor such as SMARC 2.0, TQ provides customers with 100 percent of the signal pins via the module design. This allows each customer to set the pin multiplexing according to the individual requirements of the system interfaces. The module uses an LPDDR4 memory with up to 4 GB. A QSPI-NOR flash with up to 256 MB is possible as an option to the included eMMC flash memory.

The GC7000 Lite is used as the GPU, which is also applied in the Plus versions of the i.MX8X. The i.MX8M can thus support displays with a resolution of up to 4K, and it also enables multi-display applications with different image contents. Three pin-compatible CPU variants (Dual Core, Quad Lite and Quad Core) with different graphics performance are available for this product family. In addition to the security functions already integrated in the CPU, the Cortex-M4 processor also supports extended security requirements.

Up to six I²S/SAI (Serial Audio Interface) can be used simultaneously to implement audio functions. In addition, the CPU supports up to twenty 32 Bit@384 KHz audio channels for comprehensive audio designs.

Thanks to its wide range of interfaces with a small size of only 55 x 36 mm and low power consumption the new Arm module TQMa8Mx from TQ offers a core for applications from a wide variety of areas: from human-machine interfaces to camera and audio applications. Moreover, there are many other possible applications for this module, such as industrial control tasks.

With this design, TQ extends its i.MX8 product range with a new CPU architecture based on Arm Cortex-A53 and supports a second CPU family from the i.MX8 series in addition to the i.MX8X. TQ relies on QT and Crank graphical user interfaces to take full advantage of its advanced graphics capabilities.
