acceed: I/O modules for scalable data communication

The EDAM-4200 series I/O modules from acceed offer a good value solution for data communication with local end devices in automation and building control networks, for example for production control or remote servicing. The concept is based on merging the most frequently used I/O types in just one single module. In this manner, costs are not only reduced for setting up, but also for servicing and extensions within the network. Small DA&C systems and independent controllers are prepared fast with one or two EDAM-4200s. Thanks to two Ethernet interfaces, further modules can easily be joined as a distributed I/O architecture in accordance with the daisy chain principle.

The core functions in Smart networks include the feeding of data, signals and locally collected measurement values. This is in particular true within the industrial surroundings of machine and plant control, but also for building automation and in the meantime equally for possible automation applications in the private sphere (Smart homes). Additionally, remote servicing and remote control requirements exist. Normally, the option of network connection is available. The interface for local data collection or device switching is formed by I/O modules similar to those in the EDAM-4200 series. The EDAM-4200 series modules support the modbus/TCP protocol for application with Ethernet controllers or HMI/SCADA software with modbus/TCP drivers, which is valid as the industrial standard. Moreover, TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP and ARP are supported.

The automatic DIO synchronisation function is interesting. Assignment of EDAM-4200 series modules in pairs can be defined in peer-to-peer networks. In this manner, input values are transferred directly to the allocated output channels and an output can be activated dependent on the input status. The auto-off function transfers an output to monostable operation. Here, the output reverts to the stable status following a defined time frame until a further trigger is executed. The power on value and safe value are further functions for automatically setting outputs to a defined status, for example in connection with switch-on procedures or watchdog activities. The integrated features enable the speedy setting of important basic functions without much programming work.

The daisy chain connection of several modules, possible due to two RJ45 interfaces, simplifies the provision and scalability effectively in Ethernet networks. The risk of data communication interruptions in case of electricity failure at a specific point in conjunction with daisy chain topology is compensated by the automatic bypass protection. According to the manufacturer, this feature guarantees automatic resumption of the network connection already 2 seconds after electricity failure on a module.

The casing for the highly compact modules is suitable for top-hat rail assembly, both in the switch cabinet and for wall assembly. Status LEDs display the most important information at a glance. Screw terminals are provided for the signal connection, the voltage range is provided via an external power supply (10 to 30 VDC). For operation, an ambient temperature range from -10 to +70°C is permissible. Optical insulation is defined with 3750 Vrms.
